Songledger frequently asked questions.

Everything you might want to know about the Songwriter’s Ledger for iPad

i.What is Songledger?+

Songledger is the Gorse & Quill Songwriter’s Ledger, built for iPad and Apple Pencil. It follows a song from the first scratch of an idea, sketched by hand with a voice note or photo attached, through to a clean, typed Fair Copy, and on into Gig Mode for the stage.

ii.How is Songledger different from the physical Ledger?+

It’s the same idea, carried differently. The physical Ledger is built for pen and paper; Songledger is built for the same craft, on glass, with Apple Pencil. Both hold the same rule: no AI. Nothing completes your lyric or suggests the hook that’s been optimised to land. The app keeps what you make; it doesn’t make it for you.

iii.Do I need to own the physical Ledger to use Songledger?+

No. Songledger is a standalone app. Some songwriters carry a notebook, and others carry an iPad. Songledger is built for the second kind, and works entirely on its own.

iv.How much does it cost, and how do I get it?+

Songledger is available on the App Store now, priced at £17.99 as a one‑off purchase with no subscription. Visit the Songledger page to get it, or email hello@gorseandquill.com if you have any trouble.

v.Do I need an Apple Pencil?+

Not strictly. Songledger is built around Apple Pencil for the sketch pages, so writing and sketching feels closest to pen on paper when you use one. That said, the app is usable with touch alone if you don’t have one.

vi.Which iPads does Songledger support?+

Songledger requires an iPad running iPadOS 17.6 or later.

vii.What can I do inside Songledger?+

Sketch a lyric or idea with Apple Pencil, attach photos for inspiration and voice notes the moment a melody arrives, then move into Fair Copy for a clean, structured, typed version, verse by verse and chord by chord. A choice of paper types covers plain, ruled, wide ruled, dotted, music score and guitar tab. A built‑in metronome and guitar tuner, and simple songwriting prompts, are there when you need them. When a song is ready for the stage, build a setlist in Gig Mode, with auto‑scrolling lyrics and chords, or export it as a PDF for your bandmates.

viii.Does Songledger use AI?+

No. There are no generated lyrics, chords or melodies anywhere in the app. Songledger keeps what you make. It doesn’t make it for you.

ix.Do I need an account, or an internet connection?+

No to both. Songledger works entirely offline, with no account to create and nothing sent anywhere.

x.Where are my songs, recordings and voice notes stored?+

Everything is stored locally on your iPad, and we never see it. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your songs, recordings and voice notes are included in your own secure iCloud backup, so they can be restored if you lose or replace your device. That backup stays private to your Apple account; we never receive it, analyse it, or have any access to it. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
